A County Comprehensive Plan, as required by the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (Act 247 as reenacted and amended), is important because it represents a compilation of local facts and statistics presented in an orderly and systematic manner that aids local county or municipal officials in preparing for the future. In essence, a Comprehensive Plan is a “blueprint” for the future development of a county or municipality. It can also be said that municipalities (or counties) prepare such plans in order to improve their ability to: (1) adapt to the expected; (2) to create the desirable; and (3) to avoid the undesirable.
The Cambria County Planning Commission, along with their consultant, The EADS Group, have recently completed and adopted (December 16, 2011) an update of the Cambria County Comprehensive Plan entitled, Toward a Sustainable Future 2010-2030. As indicated above, the County Plan provides a general direction or blueprint for the future development of the county and its constituent communities. The Plan Update focuses on sustaining the communities, the economy, and the environment of Cambria County in the 21st Century. Background studies, public surveys, community workshops, research, and field investigations have been incorporated into this Plan Update.
