Dennis J. Kwiatkowski, Coroner 

 Background

Dennis Kwiatkowski started in the Cambria County Coroner's Office in the fall of 1979, where he worked as a Deputy Coroner. Dennis remained a deputy coroner until 1986, when he was appointed Chief Deputy. After the retirement of his predecessor in June 1993, Dennis was named as Acting Coroner of Cambria County. In the November elections that year, Dennis was elected Coroner to serve a two year interim term. Since then, Dennis was re-elected in 1996 and 2000, and 2004. Dennis was certified by the Pennsylvania State Coroners Education Board in December of 1993. Dennis is now serving his third full term in office.

During his tenure in office, Dennis has been involved in the Pennsylvania State Coroner's Association as a member, regional vice president, and is currently serving as the Associations secretary/treasurer. Dennis is also an executive board member on the Pennsylvania State Association of Elected County Officials. These two organizations work hand in hand with the legislators of Pennsylvania to enact laws and regulations to govern various elected offices. Dennis is a past member Board of Directors for the Center of Organ Recovery and Education (C.O.R.E.) for Western Pennsylvania. Dennis is also a member of the Child and Adolescent Health and Wellness Council of Cambria County. Dennis is Chairperson of the Cambria County Child Death Review Team which he helped to formulate several years ago with the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

In Dennis' spare time he is involved with the various fire services within the area. Dennis is a life member in the Richland Fire Department and also is a retired Chief of the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department. Dennis is second in command of the Cambria County Hazardous Materials Team. He is also an advisory member to the Laurel Highlands Critical Incident Stress Management Team.
