Around Cambria County 

Cambria County is a fourth class County of Pennsylvania. Its strategic location to the transportation networks, approximately 71 miles east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania via US-22 and 143 miles west of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania via I-76, which is only two of many arteries. The beauty and abundance of natural resources of the area serve to promote economic activities; Cambria County is one of the most desirable vacationing destinations.

There is 63 ( 32 boroughs and 30 townships) municipalities within the County, with one city, Johnstown. The county also belongs to Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Corporation. Within Cambria County, there are at least 46 different organizations that offer financial, technical or other services to businesses to stimulate business growth.

County Board and Authorities

  • Conservation & Recreation - The Authority works closely with and utilizes staff of the Cambria County Conservation District for technical assistance on projects. The Authority is made up of a board of fifteen residents from all parts of the County who are appointed by the County Commissioners for staggered five year terms. Staff consists of an Executive Director and Administrative Specialist. The purpose of the Authority is to establish recreational opportunities and assist with the cleanup of coal mininig polluted rivers.
  • Industrial Development- The ten member board focuses on financing, helping package your loan requirements by accessing the best possible funding sources for your specific project.  This authority incorporates key executives from virtually every business and industrial segment in the region The IDC brings a wealth of experience and influence to support a business decision to locate its facility in the area.  The IDC administers the Cambria County Industrial Park in Ebensburg.
  • John P. Murtha Airport - The Airport Authority continues its development endeavors to promote business opportunities with prime airport locations, provide Jobs, improve commercial air service, develop general and corporate aviation, support a military presence and strive for an outstanding aviation facility for customers’ and the region at large.
  • Planning Commission - The vision for Cambria County is one of mandated challenges and planned opportunities. It is about land use planning that promotes economic development opportunity and the creation of new jobs. It's about human capital planning with opportunity for improved education and increased health and human services; and it's about quality of life planning with the opportunity in areas of housing, public safety, arts and culture, and recreation.
  • Redevelopment - In addition to administrating the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program for the County of Cambria, the Redevelopment Authority assist municipalities in the application and administration of various housing and community development programs including but not limited to the rehabilitation of substandard housing units, the construction of public facilities such as sanitary sewer and public water systems, recreation, the demolition of vacant dilapidated structures, brown fields development and other miscellaneous activities.
  • Transit Authority - CamTran is Cambria County's public transportation authority. Providing fixed-route, Reserve-a-Ride, and other specialized services, CamTran makes transportation possible for the people of Cambria County. Whether you need to commute to work, school, or appointments, CamTran has a way to get you there. CamTran is customer-driven by a professional team, providing affordable, clean, safe, reliable, and convenient mobility services for the public.
  • War Memorial - is a 4,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania that is managed by SMG Entertainment. It was built in 1950, for the Johnstown Jets of the Eastern Hockey League. The film Slap Shot, based on the Jets, was filmed in this arena.  It is now the alternate venue of the Wheeling Nailers. The arena has been home to the Johnstown Generals of the UIFL since the league's inaugural season in 2011.

Regional

  • Alleghenies SCORE – Alleghenies SCORE provides free business advice and mentoring tailored to help an individual start up a business or address problems in an existing business. The service is provided by retired business owners and entrepreneurs.
  • Catalyst Connection- is an industrial resource center dedicated to helping small and mid-size manufacturers in Southwestern Pennsylvania improve their competitive performance, in addition to training and consulting. Catalyst administers financial programs which can provide funding for equipment and machinery.
  • Center for Global Competitiveness – CGC provides specializes marketing assistance to small and medium sized businesses, including individual marketing consulting, organized domestic and international trade events, educational programs, resource library, and a quarterly international newsletter.
  • Community Foundation fot the Alleghenies - is a nonprofit public foundation that works with donors to develop funds that will benefit the community both now in in the future.  Support is offered in economic development
  • Johnstown Area Regional Industries No matter what business you're in, we're here to help you establish and grow your company in today's global economy, with value-added services and connections to the right people in government, commercial lending, equity investing, real estate, and other regional, state and federal economic development groups.
  • Procuement Technical Assistance Center -  PA PTACs are part of a congressionallly authorized initiative to assist businesses in marketing their goods and services to the U.S. Department of Defense, other federal agencies, and state and local government.
  • Saint Francis Small Business Development Center - provides assistance to both existing small business owneres and those thinking about starting a business.  Assistance includes free and confidential consulting to entrepreneurs in many areas, including buisness paln development, start-up procedures, financing proposals and market analysis.
  • Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Cooperation - serves Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon, and Somerset Counties by fostering cooperation among communities and the agencies that strive to make The Alleghenies a better place to Live, Work and Do Business.
  • Young Professionals of the Alleghenies - a diverse group of young professionals on a mission to enhance the lives of those in the Greater Alleghenies region of Western Pennsylvania.

Local Organizations

  • Municipalities - A listing of all municipalities in Cambria County with websites.
  • Cresson Chamber of Commerce -  The Cresson Area sits atop the Allegheny Highlands in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. It is intersected by Pa route 53 and us route 22. The area is located between Altoona to the east and Johnstown to the Southwest. The Cresson Area consists of the communities of Cresson Borough, Cresson Township and Sankertown Borough. Incorporation dates for the three communities are Cresson 1906, Cresshttp://www.cressonarea.com/on Township 1893 and Sankertown 1906. Surrounding communities include the boroughs of Ashville, Gallitzin, Lilly, Loretto and Tunnelhill. Surrounding townships include Allegheny, Dean, Gallitzin, Munster and Washington. These communities make up the Penn Cambria School District.
  • Discover Downtown Johnstown - The Discover Downtown Johnstown Partnership is a non-profit organization actively working on several initiatives focused on making Downtown Johnstown a more inviting place to welcome and attract customers, businesses, residents and investors. The Partnership is governed by an appointed Board made up of key business persons, professionals and other stakeholders in the downtown community
  • Ebensburg Area Business Commission – EABC works to improve the economic vitality of Ebensburg’s business community. The EAVC and the Community Development Director develop programs designed to recruit new businesses, retain those established and encourage reinvestment within the commercial district.
  • Greater Johnstown Cambria County Chamber of Commerce - To be the leading non-profit business organization dedicated to creating an environment for its members where business growth and the quality of life are enhanced to the maximum level.
  • Greater Johnstown Cambria County Convention & Visitors Bureau - offers a variety of experience and education in the hospitality industry including food service, hotel, retail, special event planning, and communications.
  • Greater Johnstown Keystone Inovation Zone - creates a virtual organization that fosters industry and academia collaboration to stimulate innovation, technology commercialization ,and other entrepreneurship opportunities.
  • Hastings Area Industrial Development Association is an industrial development corporation certified to apply for loans through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority.
  • Johnstown Redevelopment Authority - The Johnstown Redevelopment Authority exists and operates for the public purposes of the elimination of blighted areas for residential, recreational, commercial, industrial, or other purposes, to provide a decent living environment and adequate places of employment for the citizens of the Johnstown community. The mission of the Johnstown Redevelopment Authority is to undertake urban renewal and the continued revitalization of the City of Johnstown, using unified public and private partnerships while engaging citizens in a community vision for growth.
  • Kernvill Arts District - Johnstown has designed an attractive program with financial incentives for qualifying artists who relocate here.  The Kernville Arts District has been specially zoned so that interested artists can live, work, teach, and conduct retail sales from their homes.
  • Lift Johnsotwn - was created by community, business, and local government leaders who recognized that a coolaborative effort focused on economic development, learning and workforce development, and quality-of-life  issues is the best way to position the community for th future.  Collaboration in implementing three plans is the centerpiece of Lift Johnstown: the City of Johnstown Master Plan; the 2020 Regional Vision; and the Laurel Highlands Conservation Landscape Initiative.
  • Northern Cambria Area Business Alliance - The Northern Cambria Area Business Alliance represents an intra-municipal partnership of professionals and individuals committed to the economic and social welfare of the communities that comprise the northern area of Cambria County. We are committed to promote and provide strong educational opportunities and community development programs to increase the economic vitality of our region.
  • Penn State Cooperative Extension - Penn State Cooperative Extension in Cambria County gives local residents easy access to the resources and expertise of the Pennsylvania State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, cooperative extension agents deliver unbiased, research-based information to Cambria County citizens.   • Penn Highlands Community College - Pennsylvania Highlands Community College provides quality, affordable opportunities for learning that meet regional needs in a supportive, student-oriented environment.
